As My Luck Would Really Have It

Yesterday I made the comment, “As my luck would have it…” Apparently it was an understatement. Most you probably don’t know, but there is such a thing as ‘The Starling Bad Luck’. I don’t know who my ancestors managed to cross, but they put a curse on the good Starling name. Now before some you ladies out there start thinking twice about adding Starling on your name, let me explain this: It only affects the men in our family by birth. My brother, my dad, my dad’s brothers, my nephews, my grandfather, me…we all have it. To put it simply: nothing is easy and nothing ever goes our way. Now let me tell you why you just got all that back-story.

Most of you may or may not know, but I dropped my only class this semester. I was having one of those college quarter life crises where I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life anymore. Since that technically made me an inactive student at FSU (because I didn’t take summer classes), they withdrew me. No problem, I dropped my class, walked down two floors at the University Center, and filled out a re-admission application. Yeah, that was back in October. Well I called last week because I hadn’t heard anything as to my status. Admissions said that my paperwork was sent to the CS Department for the Dean’s approval. So I call the CS department and my advisor is out for a few days. Wonderful. So I left her a voice mail. She calls me back this Monday and says that my paperwork was sent back to Admissions. Tuesday, I call Admissions and they don’t got any stinkin paperwork. Marvelous. Then the nice lady said that she would call the CS department and see what the 411 was.

Yesterday I get a voice mail from Admissions saying that there was a mix up. It appears that when I dropped my class, I checked this box for automatic re-admission. Admissions didn’t see it and the Computer Science department didn’t see it either. The Dean of CS on the other hand did. So technically I’ve been a registered student the whole time. Oh, and I probably failed to mention that class registration for Spring 2005 closed a long time ago. That means I have register on Jan 5 and FSU is going to be kind and waive the $100 late registration fee. Gee thanks.

Today’s “special” update is the Official 2004 JoshuaStarling.Com Christmas Card. Enjoy! (Adobe PDF)

As far as the geography game, my average error was 34 miles. Which is less than the distance from Tallahassee to Bainbridge. So, not too shabby.

As far as the Christmas card, I like it. I also have a nice collection of similar pics. Some would make good centerfolds for an auto magazine.

As far as a quarter life crisis, I knew you were driving that truck around for a reason.

As far as luck, you are one lucky fool bro. Blessed and lucky. Praise God.
