Putting Things Into Perspective
I realized the other day I hit a new low point at work when I get a call about a printer not working. The cause of the problem: rat turds in the paper tray. The user thought it would be in the printer’s best interest to combine compressed air and industrial strength cleaning solution into a cleaning force by which the world as never seen. Needless to say, that was a sweet smelling printer. I should also say that said user now has an aromatic paperweight. I should also mention that when I was driving back up to the office, a huge rat strolled out in front of the Mustang…score one for the home team.
I also came home last night after putting in eight hours at work and programmed for about two and half hours. On a Monday for crying out loud after I had been more or less the only person in my department. My only saving grace is that it wasn’t work related. Artie said that I entered a trance-like state and coded away. I guess I had my “code” face on. Afterwards I decided it was time to begin my reflection process: watch Office Space. Office Space is perhaps one of the greatest movies every made that sums up life in the Corporate Tech world. If you haven’t seen it, you need to go out and get a copy right now. No, really, now. Leave. If you have seen it, then you can understand where I’m coming from.
So sometimes you just have to sit back, looking around, and say something profound. So far I’ve sat back and looked around, but the reflective part has yet to materialize. Stay tuned, I’m sure that something interesting will spill out.
Oh, today’s shameless shoutout goes out to my personal hero, Macgyver.
Finally, in case you were wondering, yes I was just rambling today.

I'm currently living in Tallahassee, FL where I am a graduate of the Computer Science program at FSU and a C# web developer for a local software company.
What ever happened to the rather large co-authored production mentioned on December 23rd?
Also, the “when good help goes bad†is missing some slides. I’ll send you the real version via e-mail. So, check it.
It’s a “Jump to Conclusions Mat”. You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.
That’s why the first thing I ask when someone screams, “MY BABIES ARE STILL INSIDE!!!” is “Ma’am, are they your children or your pets?” While I do get some strange looks when I ask that, it’s all in consideration of my crew. No cat is worth the lives of my men.
