Back With A Vengeance
Hey kids I’ve been working on other personal projects all of last week, and well my ramblings were put on hold for a little bit. To give you an update last week was really stressful on me, and the beginning of the semester ain’t suppose to be that way. But like I said I’m back this time with a vengeance. I’d like to give a special shout-out to the hot-and-flirtatious heather; she gets some special love this week.
Ok guys it’s the time of year that I make my hot list of 2004. Granted everyone else is too, but this is my list and I don’t care about everyone else. Unlike last year, this year’s music proved that rock is back. I love it; however the hip-hop sound did produce an instant classic. Rock-and-Roll.
OK for starters this year’s review of music was incredible, unlike last year where Rock ‘n Roll was dead. 2004 was just a good year of music. I’m happy so here goes the stupendous (just for you Lauren) Captain’s year in review.
My favorite cd’s:
1) Kayne West – The College Dropout
So I said that Rock was back, but this was beyond a shadow of a doubt the best of 2004. Kayne’s production and introspective rhymes were “off-the-chain”. Jesus Walks may have been my favorite song of the year. If you do or even if you don’t like rap I say get this album, you won’t be disappointed.2) Modest Mouse – Good News…
This was just a fun album. If you didn’t like Float On you need to be shot in the face. I loved it and everyone else should too.3) Velvet Revolver – Contraband
(Guns and Roses – Axl) + (Scott Weiland – Stone Temple Pilots) = Rock’n – F’n – Roll. Enough said.4) U2 – How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
Vertigo wasn’t their best single and this album is no Joshua Tree but it was an awesome album.5) Gretchen Wilson – Here for the Party
Ok so it’s not rock, but she’s a strong woman that rocks. Redneck Woman is also on my short list of favorite singles. Check it out.6) Todd Snider – East Nashville Skyline
I know I discovered this gem after 2005 had begun, but this is an unbelievably good folk cd. If you were going to buy one album this year; this would be the one to get. Sure he’s a hippie that bashes a lot of values, but it was a great album none-the-less. If you’ve not heard it go to Best Buy and get you a copy.7) Big & Rich – Horse of a Different Color
These guys aren’t just a novelty act. The album is fun, and actually has some really good songs. Yes I do like Save a Horse; it’s tough being the only John Wayne around.
Young Buck – Straight Outta Cashville
Admittedly I’m not the biggest G-Unit fan, but this one caught me. If you like southern rap then you’ll like this album. It’s been in heavy rotation since I purchased it.9) Beastie Boys – To the 5 Boroughs
It’s political; it’s anti-Bush; and it’s one of my favorites of the year. The Beasties did a great job returning to the spotlight. Whether your pro-Bush or against him you’ve gotta love the album.10) Franz Ferdinand – Franz Ferdinand
I got this one from the hot-and-flirtatious heather. It was good and I enjoyed it a lot.
I know the rambling has been long, but I figured I’d also add a few awesome little pieces that helped make 2004 what it was.
Dave Chappelle – he’s a funny, funny man
Adult Swim – this has made me happy for the past 4 years this year was no exception.
The iPod – it might possibly be the best portable music device ever made, and it’s just so darn cool.
Bling – Big Grant got me some and well everyone needs a piece of the action
Blog Maverick – Mark Cuban has his own blog gotta love it
Joel Veitch – remember the Quizno’s ads? Uhmm yeah…
Kill Bill – get the DVDs kids
Don’t forget these 2 classics – Dodgeball and Napoleon Dynamite
I had fun today kids, maybe, giving you some helpful insights into the mind of the good Capt’ Matt. Now that the year in review is over I’d like to say that anything dealing with Ashlee and Jessica Simpson should be cancelled, and Xzbit should be executed for crappy music, commercials and TV. shows. Also the Hilton sisters are/were way overrated.
Have a good one and I’ll see you next week. [shamelessplug] If you happen to be in the Athens area come watch the greatest 5th and 6th grade ballers at Beech Haven Church @ 4 PM on Saturdays [/shamelessplug]. To sum up my life over the past week I’m using the voice of the modern conservatives in America, “Hey, you’re holding up the $^%@#$! Lunch line!” – Eric Cartman. Be safe this week kids and remember the light at the end of the tunnel just might be the train.
This is your Captain signing off

I'm currently living in Tallahassee, FL where I am a graduate of the Computer Science program at FSU and a C# web developer for a local software company.
How much Adult Swim did you “watch” this year Capn’?
you would know
okay, i’m dissapointed that big and rich didn’t make it higher. i’m kind of shocked that U2 was rated higher. don’t get me wrong, i’ve enjoyed “atomic” a lot but i think the musical quality of “horse” was much better. but hey, that’s just me. despite that, i do believe rock and roll is back and it’s about time.
i have to confess that i broke down and purchased some bling, myself. big daddy’s ratings have increased substantially (hey, a big word!). i highly recommend it…just don’t overdo it.
while dodgeball was dissappointing and overhyped, napolean dynamite has to be the greatest film of 2004. it will truly be the next major cult classic.
ashlee, jessica, paris, and nicole should all be banned from tv. who’s xzibit? nah, i kid…i kid.
and the light at the end of the tunnel wasn’t a train, although ecto-plasmic readings were extremely high…
Baw chiggy baw wrawwwwww…
