The Good Stuff Keeps Rollin’ In

I realize that it hasn’t even been a month since my major site redesign. However yesterday I was trolling around in the vastness of cyberspace and I found out there is a new version of the software that I use to handle background database work. So you know what that means? Yep…another upgrade. Before you start moaning and groaning let me clarify a few things. They went from version 1.2.1 of the software to 1.5.0. In the land of software, that’s a nice little jump. The upgrade has a lot of nifty new features and will make my life even easier and give you more cool stuff.

Now I’ve learned a few things doing this kind of stuff for a living. First of all, I’m not going to blindly upgrade my site. So what I’ve done is downloaded an exact copy of my website, database and other tidbits. Next I’ve setup my PC to be a web sever with Apache, PHP, and mySQL. So I’ve going to upgrade my site locally and see how things fare. I expect things to be broken since I’ve heavily modified the original source code. God bless the open source movement and one more step towards world domination.

This process is going to take a while for me to complete. So it’s going to be a few weeks before you notice any changes. Plus I’m sure the software will have a few bugs in it and they’ll release some fixes between now and then. I am sorry to say, for the 20% of my viewers, that I won’t be making any color/design/layout changes. I am going to explore options to allow you to change between different themes using CSS. Of course all of this depends on how much free time I have in the coming weeks. Besides, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

And in other nerdy news, I watched the entire plot line of Star Wars Episode III today summed up in about 80 screenshots from the movie. I learned a few things from that. First of all, George Lucas has agreed to open of the French Cannes Film Festival with Episode III on May 11th. That’s 8 days before its release in the US. That confirms my fears that Lucas sold his soul a long time ago. Secondly, I think Ep3 is going to be amazing. It seems that just about everything will be answered in this final installment with only a few lingering plot holes. On second thought…don’t hold me to any of that.

Speaking of Mario eating mushrooms… anyone wonder how good of an influence that is on kids? And our parents let us play Nintendo. Dang.

“Computer games don’t affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us we’d all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.” – Unknown
