Almost There…

Please forgive me as I meant to post this last Tuesday. This in no way undermines any dedication that I have as a fan, a life long fan at that. So you’re probably asking yourself, “What was so special about Tuesday, April 19?” Unless you live in Portugal (Revolution Day), probably nothing really noticeable. However, for those of us nerds…Star Wars nerds to be exact…that date would be one month until the US release of Episode III.
Big deal right? For some of you out there in internet land, yes. However, others (and you know who you are) have been eagerly anticipating this day for many moons now. Of course by “eagerly anticipating” I mean “praying that Lucas doesn’t screw over millions of fans while performing a Scrooge McDuck dive into a pile of money.” But I digress.
By far the biggest question I’ve been asked is, “What are you going to celebrate this momentous occasion?” My response, “What any hardcore fan would do: watch them all in one day.” Yes, you read that right, I’m going to sit down and watch them all in one day, back to back to back to back to back to back. I’m going to have to take one for the team and take one of my coveted vacation days from work, but some things are worth it. I mean, heck, I’ll be getting paid to watch Star Wars that day. Sweetness!
Also, I’ve had some interest from a few people wanting to do the “Star Wars Experience” with me. If this is the first you’ve heard about this, consider this your invitation. This is how its going to go down people: The AMC 20′s (in Tallahassee) first showings are at 11:15 AM, Noon, and 12:45 PM. Episode I’s running time is 2:13 and Episode II’s is 2:23 for a subtotal total of 4 hours and 36 minutes. When you factor in a 10 minutes break between the two movies and 45 minute window to get a good seat at the theater, that comes out to roughly 5 hours and 30 minutes. Therefore, to make any of those times, I would have to start Episode I at 5:45 AM, 6:30 AM, and 7:15 AM, respectively.
Going against my inner desire to be as early as possible to everything, I’ll take another one for the team and start watching the movies as late as possible. Please note that all times are subject to change. That means this little shindig will kick off and following this schedule:
7:00 AM – Be at my place if you want to watch the first one.
7:15 AM – Episode I Starts
9:30 AM – Be at my place if you want to start with the second one.
9:40 AM – Episode II Starts
12:05 PM – Leave my place to go to the AMC Theater. Also time to grab a quick bite to eat.
12:45 PM – Episode III Starts
3:30 PM – Be at my place if you want to watch the forth one.
3:40 PM- Episode IV Starts.
5:40 PM – Be at my place if you want to watch the fifth one.
5:50 PM – Episode V Starts.
8:00 PM – Be at my place if you want to watch the sixth one.
8:10 PM – Episode VI Starts.
10:25 PM – Done!
10:26 PM – Go Home!!
Again, these times are subject to change, especially if I couldn’t add/subtract times correctly (which wouldn’t surprise me). One final note, Episodes IV – VI are NOT those special editions. Instead we’ll be watching the original versions on DVD because those are the ones I grew up watching (yes, I’ve got connections). As always, if you have any questions or if you are interested, please let me know.
Oh…and have a hap-hap-happy Monday.

I'm currently living in Tallahassee, FL where I am a senior in the Computer Science program at FSU and a C# web developer for a local software company.
How soon do we need to get our tickets for the show?
josh you are fullfilling the ultimate fantasy
Yeah, I almost wonder if my life will have any meaning after all this. Kinda like heavy ecstasy users that burn out their pleasure centers.
And yes, I would recommend that you go ahead and get your tickets.
Looks like I will not be able to join the festivities due to a statewide hurricane exercise. While I prepare to save the state of Florida once again from the evil forces of the hurricane side, I hope you all have fun. If anyone wants to go see Episode III with me another time, please let me know.
I can’t make it to see episode III either, alas I will be working. SO maybe I could go with you artie.
