Well Then

Ahoy!

Talk about a slap in the face. Artie and I went to Man-Land (aka Best Buy) last night to check out the weekly new releases. While strolling down the isles of “entertainment distractions “and “spending time with the girlfriend” reducing agents, we noticed that things seemed…different. “Artie, these DVD prices don’t seem quite right.” “Yeah man, I was just thinking the same thing.” Let me just say that something was wrong, bad wrong.

After doing some sampling on DVD prices, it appears that all the new releases that typically debut at $14.99 have been bumped up to $16.99. DVDs that normally retail for $19.99 have been marked up to $22.99 and even $23.99 in some cases. Even the el cheapo $5.99 bin has been comsumer whored up to $6.99. And why in the world would I want to purchase a season of the Sopranos for $83.99? Figitaboutit.

After doing much reasoning and soul searching, the only reason I can fathom for this change is the crappy summer box office. Yes, this is offiically the worst summer at the movies since 1985. I’ve already ranted about this, but I can’t help the fact that you, Hollywood, can’t produce a movie in today’s society that anyone would want to watch again next year…let alone in 50 years. At best, a majority of your remakes and attempts at creativity have resulted in movies that suck like a vacuum and blow like a fan. But do not take it out on my wallet.

If you would just churn out a movie worthy of my time, I’ll pay for a ticket to see it AND buy the DVD when it comes out. Heck, I would even take the Webmistress to see it. DOUBLE your money! But ohhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooo….

I shake my fist at thee!

Josh, you know what this means: It’s time to “take a stroll” along the Pirate’s Bay. They whine and whine about pirating cutting into the profits, but do they really think RAISING the prices is going to help? And don’t give me that “they have to raise them because of pirating” crap, because a DVD sales are typically 60%+ profit. The industry is not hurting. They’re basically saying, “You can get one DVD with a case for $22, or 100 DVD’s for $26.” Gee… I wonder which one I’m going to pick…

So, leading right into my next statement, Best Buy is EVIL. BestBuySux.org has some great reading material for anyone that’s bored.

Having worked at Best Buy for a year and a half I will agree that it is indeed evil. With that said I will also tell you that the discount we got was excellent (5% above cost) and we only got like $2 off movies at the most. So they arent making much on them either….
