To Infinity And Beyond

Ahoy!

Well, I gave my two weeks notice last Friday when I got back from Savannah. I do feel a little bad about the timing but everything happened so fast. I had an interview on a Monday, a follow-up interview on Thursday, and a job offer the next Monday. Of course I was out of town and didn’t find out about it until later on.

My last official day at Engelhard BASF is August 18. Yeah, no more having to drive to Georgia and back everyday (64 miles round trip). In some ways, I’m going to miss that drive and cheaper GA gas…with the exception of Havana. I’m not going to miss that little speed trap town.

Nope. Instead I’ll be taking a quick hop on I-10 over to Thomasville Road to Infinity Software. Added bonus: Kari and I are try and see how the carpooling thing works. I start there on August 21 as a Programmer Analyst. Can I get a woo hoo? No more having to switch back and forth between development work and technical support. Now I’ll be 100% developer working on ASP.NET web applications and Oracle databases. Actually, this is the type of work I’ve always wanted to do and, best of all, its in line with my degree.

The awesome thing is that I’ve already been assigned to a project that starts on September 1. I believe they call that “hit the ground running”. Needless to say I’m excited and I feel like I’m making the right decision. I see it as a “God thing” considering the fact I met some random guy at Borders who said they were looking for programmers at his company and for me to send in a resume. Just for clarification, he noticed I was purchasing a few programming nerd books and asked me if I was a programmer.

And that’s how it all went down peoples.

Hmm… I think I was the one who wanted to go to Borders that evening since I was looking for a book (I think it was either xml or Python). I’d agree that it probably is a “God thing.”
