Pedestrians
Pedestrians at UGA annoy the bejeezus out of me.
Yes, I walk to class every day, but I’m considerate to drivers because I don’t want to be an annoying pedestrian because I know what its like to be the person in the car. For some reason, most of the people on this campus feel like they have some God-given right to walk whenever they want to and take their good ole’ sweet time crossing when cars are being nice and not running them over, when we all know they have a right to because they are neither at a crosswalk nor have the right of way. Then, they look at you like they’re offended because heaven forbid you wanted to actually go when you had the green light. Maybe it has something to do with the majority of the people on this campus being from Cobb County which means that they’ve never walked anywhere in their life or had to cross a road, and because they’re spoiled rich kids they can be as inconsiderate as they want.
If you’ve ever seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Violet is from Cobb County, and her mother fits the part of a Cobb County mom to a T. Anyway, traffic signals aren’t real hard to interpret at an intersection red means the cars aren’t going to go and green means they are.
Yes, you can cross the road if no one is coming and you don’t have the right of way. Actually I think that is only applicable in Athens, where all traffic laws are suspended, and you are only ticketed for jay walking if you are hit by a car while doing so. If you’re crossing and the car you’re in front of gets the green light while you’re in transit, at least look like you’re making an effort. Don’t look at the driver like they’re retarded for wanting to get on with their lives, even if they are inching up to remind you that they are the ones that belong on the road, and perhaps even threaten your life a little…but I would never do that.
On the opposite side to the coin, there are just practical reasons to not being an annoying pedestrian. First of all, if you don’t watch where you are going you WILL get hit by a bike. There’s no way this will be pretty, and yes it’s a bike, but it should be quite painful. Some people on bikes don’t even care if they hit a pedestrian a little. My friends who bike all the time informed me that I was not hardcore because I had not hit a pedestrian. This doesn’t mean full on because that can harm your bike and yourself, just a little clip on the arm or behind the knee with your peddle will do the trick. Also, if you don’t watch where you are going, a sorostitute in her SUV will hit you because she is talking on her cell phone and those big retarded sunglasses will cause her to have a blind spot. She wasn’t looking to hit people while she was dropping of her sisters from the sowhority house, but daddy’s lawyer will win her case…so be careful!
And remember to look Right, Left, Right…then it’s safe to cross the street.
