Vacation In Review

Happy Wednesday everyone!
Well, I’m back from my trip to Tennessee and let me just say this: Tennessee was hot and hillbilly. Seriously, I was hoping to at least experience some winter-like conditions and possibly some snow. But oh noooooo. It had to be in the 70′s with a chance of rain most days. So here’s a run down of the trip:
We left Friday afternoon after work around 4:45 PM. After a brief stop for gas in Albany and dinner just south of Atlanta, we finally arrived in Gatlinburg around 1:15 AM. Surprisingly traffic in Atlanta wasn’t all that bag and in general the trip up was very smooth.
Due to the late night long drive, we declared Saturday a lazy day. I ended up spending most of the reading for school which subsequently led to a nap followed by watching TV. Sunday we drove over to Jefferson City (about an hour away) to visit with my brother and his family. This also finally brought an end to the multi-Christmas I had this year. On Monday, we hit the outlet malls in Pigeon Forge and that consumed most of the day.
I do have an interesting side story. While I was in the KB Toys store (not getting impaled), I had this six year old hillbilly youngin’ roll up to me on those shoes with the built-in skates. He just stuck out his foot and asked me to tie his shoe. He didn’t even bother to make eye contact with me. I just look at him and said, “No, you can tie your own shoe dude.” And he did. Note to self: Don’t raise kids that are so lazy they have to ask strangers to tie their shoes.
Of course the day we leave the Winter Blitz (as the Weather Channel) rolls in to bring freezing weather and snow. We left around 10:45 AM and had already experienced the high for the day: 36. After a stop just north of Atlanta, and stop just north of Macon, and a stop in Albany at Stripling’s for some mayhaw jelly, we got back into Tallahassee around 7:45-ish PM. We also ran into a small traffic jam around the Atlanta airport due to a car that caught fire on the side of the road. With the new car, we drove about 550 miles on the return home using 1.25 tanks of gas. Needless to say I’ve very happy with the Mazda’s gas mileage and handling on the interstate.
Overall I had a great time. The only thing I regret is that we didn’t get to do any of the usual stuff like hiking or playing in the snow. But there’s always next year.
