Near Miss…Again

This one is hot off the press:
So this morning I was driving to work…just as I always do. There’s one small two lane road that I use to cut over to Monroe Street and then a quick right onto I-10. Now the traffic light at the intersection of the small road and Monroe is brutal. It has a really sensitive sensor where if a small break occurs when people are turning left onto Monroe or going straight, it switches to red really quickly. Plus if you miss the light, its a good 5-7 minutes before it turns green again due to all the traffic coming to Tallahassee.
But I digress.
This morning I was almost to the light. There were three cars in front of me and they were all turning right. The light was green so that meant there was going to be a break in traffic. As soon as I got within two or so car lengths from the white line, the light turned yellow. Now given the unofficial traffic rules in Tallahassee, I could still make the light. I give the car a little gas and it looks like I’m going to make it.
Suddenly a City of Tallahassee Blazer had a change of heart about being in the right turn lane. With a car length and a half in front me and the white line, they whip it over. Now normally this wouldn’t be a problem because Tallahassee drives are infamous for last minute lane changes to make lights. The last two words are key here peoples. I don’t think this person had the intention of ever making the light.
Oh no…they slammed on brakes. And what was I doing? Going down an incline and gaining a little speed to make the yellow light. And what did I do? Laid on the horn and pulled a Fred Flintstone with the brakes. Seriously, I was probably an inch from their bumper the whole time we collectively laid on the brakes.
So I’m ok…the car is ok…and if I ever find the person in the Blazer in front of me…they won’t be ok.

I'm currently living in Tallahassee, FL where I am a graduate of the Computer Science program at FSU and a C# web developer for a local software company.
Aside from other geographic anomalies, I find it interesting that Carlsbad Caverns shows up on the Japanese RPG map of North America twice. That and appearantly they haven’t discovered Canada yet.
Josh apparently took our rebelion to heart we win again hahahahahahahahaha
