Online Image Editing Made Easy

Ahoy!

A few weeks ago I ran into the problem of needing to edit about 60 images for a side programming project I’m working on. Editing that many images was going to be a boring and tedious task. Especially since all I was doing was cropping all the images and saving them into a PNG format.

I tried using Photoshop at home, but it was going to take too long to edit all the images. Plus, after working so many long days in a row, I didn’t want to sit in front of my computer at home any longer than I had to. So I needed to find some way to easily edit the images when I had a few minutes free at work and share them between work and home.

After searching around online, I came across Picnik. Picnik is an online image editing package that is made for the casual photographer…so you won’t find any hardcore Photoshop-like functionality. However, what you will find is a slick, simple-to-use, program that is great for making quick touch-ups and edits to existing photos.

The beauty of Picnik is that you can connect it to your Flickr, Facebook, or Picasa accounts and edit/save photos directly from those services. You can also upload an image from you local computer to from a website. If you do it that way, you have the option of saving the edited picture to your computer or emailing to yourself or a site like Snapfish, Wal-Mart, ImageBucket, and so on. There are even extensions for Firefox and Internet Explorer to further increase functionality.

In the end, I got a Flickr account, uploaded the image, editing them in Picnik, and saved them back to Flickr…all online. Then I could access and work on the images from any computer with internet access.
