Brief and Belated Intro to Web 2.0

Happy Tuesday everyone. Well, I don’t have much to report today. Since work has slowed down and school doesn’t start for another two weeks, life has been on easy street…thieves and critters aside. So today I’m going to give you brief introduction into the Web 2.0 and give you a list to websites to better improve your digital life.
Web 2.0, in a tiny nutshell, is basically a second generation of web-based communities and hosted services “such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies” which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. The most oblivious examples being Wikipedia, Flickr and Facebook. Basically, they are sites to help you and others share and organize data across multiple mediums. You’ll also notice that most of these sites have funky names and flashy, yet simplistic designs. That’s an added bonus of Web 2.0.
So there are a list of sites that provide an overview of the 2.0 movement and I think could help you out:
- Bill Share – Calculate the shared costs of bill with your roommates.
- Geezeo – Help with financial decisions. Basically an online budget where you can set goals and compare to other users’ goals.
- Tumblr - To make a simple analogy: If blogs are journals, tumblelogs are scrapbooks.
- Oh Don’t Forget – Send reminders via text messages.
- Geni – Create your own family tree and send it to others for update.
- Bubbl – Brainstorming website.
- Jing Project – Capture images and video from your PC and instantly put them online.
And those are the nifty, new Web 2.0 web applications that I’ve come across.
Enjoy!
The Forbidden Library – A list of of banned and censored books.

Hey Joshua,
Thanks for checking out Geezeo and thanks for including us in your example of Web 2.0 companies. We pride ourselves on building a clean and easy to use application and plan on making the site even better. Also, to your point about the social aspect of web 2.0 websites is dead on…collaboration, group opinions and leveraging the community to make a site better is a key.
Thanks again!
