FSU vs. Alabama

Well boys and girls, that’s where I’ll be this weekend. The game is in Jacksonville, FL at the Jaguar’s Alltel Stadium on Saturday. Why there? I guess because that’s what Georgia and Florida do when they play and it seems to work out for them. I didn’t want to say anything sooner about going because I didn’t want to brag about having tickets and then something…like the Starling luck…happen. Heck, something could still happen between today and Saturday, but hopefully it won’t.

I must say that I’ve got mixed emotions about the game on many levels. First, you need to understand that every person who is Starling born is a ‘Bama fan. And that’s probably a mild description. Then I’ve got an Aunt and three cousins on my Mom’s side who are ‘Bama fans as well.

Then there’s me.

Alone.

The black sheep of the football family.

Now that’s not to say they hate FSU. No, my parents have always supported my decision to go to FSU and they follow FSU football. But to sum things up, my Mom told me the other day, “I love you son but I’m going to be pulling for Alabama.”

And there it is.

I’ve got a lot running on this game. You see, not only is it a pride thing, but a “I’ll never hear the end of it” thing if FSU loses. My brother (Happy Birthday old man) managed to churn out four little ‘Bama pride smack talking machines. Its also a matter of honor.

Thankfully I married into a FSU family.

As much as I want to win and as much as I hate to admit it…it’ll probably be a long ride home.
