ROLL TRIBE

We won!!!!!!
Holy crap. Still in shock. Don’t really believe it.
Now for the summary with photo narrative:
Kari and I left for Jacksonville Friday afternoon. Just outside of Jacksonville, we got stuck in traffic…surrounded by Bama fans…with one car playing the Alabama fight song over and over again. I knew it was going to be a long weekend. I don’t know if it was the distance or time of the game, but we didn’t see many FSU fans on the road Friday. I’d say for every five Bama blinged cars we passed, there was one FSU car. Even the local Jacksonville news said there was about 30 Alabama fans tailgating at the stadium Friday night for every 1 FSU fan. Apparently the big FSU theme for the game was “Roll Tribe”, a clever pun on Alabama’s “Roll Tide”. The Seminole Boosters gave out these bumper stickers with the tickets. Most of the FSU cars we saw on the road had those stickers.
Saturday we got ready for the game and left for the stadium around 2:30 PM (the game started at 5:00 PM). Here we are in front of the stadium with our tickets. Side note, the tickets were really awesome. We were seated in the corner of our endzone, just over a third of the way up. Overall they weren’t bad seats and most of the scoring happened on our end.
At the start of the game, we were treated to an awesomely disappointing flyover of Blackhawk helicopters. After FSU won the coin toss, I thought to myself, “I hope that’s not the only thing we win.” During the first half, both teams went three and out numerous times with FSU missing a field goal due to horrible wind. I don’t know if they mentioned it on TV, but the wind was gusting up to 20 mph in the direction of our seats for most of the game. At the end of the first half, neither teams had scored. Alabama had 78 total yards and three first downs while Florida State had five first downs and 89 total yards.
The second half is when it got interesting. FSU decided to take out the starting QB Weatherford and put in Lee. Almost right away FSU marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Then during the 4th quarter, Alabama fumbled the football which allowed FSU to score a 5 yard touchdown. Shortly thereafter the Alabama Offense machine started to try their typical 4th quarter comeback by scoring a touchdown to make the score 14-7. Kari started to get a little nervous. The Noles answered back with a 70 yard touchdown (21-7).
At this point most of the fair weather Bama fans started to leave (compared to the FSU side).
Predictably Alabama scored again to make the score 21-14 with about a minute left.
Here’s where it got hairy: Alabama decided to do an onside kick. They kicked and managed to catch the ball. Crap. However, during the review, the ball actually bounced off a Bama player’s helmet before the required 10 yards. We got the ball, end of game!

Overall it was a great game. I’ve got to give credit to Bama fans. They were a respectable bunch and I didn’t hear a one talk trash before, during, or after the game.
When we checked out on Sunday, I did the classiest thing I could think of: I rolled down the windows in my car played the fight song and war chant while driving out of the parking lot. That’s a little payback for the interstate.

Splish Splash, I was takin’ a bath. Long about a Friday night. Rub-a-dub, gasoline is in my tub. Anyone around got a light?
