Website Updated!

Well peoples, I bit the bullet last night and updated the software that runs my website. Overall it took about an hour after backing up the database and the files. Thankfully it doesn’t require a full website backup…since I’ve got about 1.5 GB of data in total. For the most part, I think things are working great. I haven’t found any bugs or broken features on the website yet.
So what big new thing did the upgrade bring? Now my website has an integrated tagging system. What that means is that I can assign key words (tags) to posts. I can then assign those same key words, or a subset of, to a different post and now those posts are related. For example, I can take all the posts I’ve done on football games and add “FSU” and “Football” to those posts. Now if either ran a search one of those tags or clicked on the tag in the post, I would get a list of all posts that contained that tag.
I haven’t pinned down exactly where I’m going display the tags for the lime green theme, but for now you’ll find them listed under the post heading:

As for the cool blue theme. you’ll find tags listed on the left side of the post:

The location of those tags will not change. As for the nerdy black theme…I’m just going to drop it all together. I don’t think anyone uses it at all. Plus it is kinda ugly. I’ve got a idea for a much better theme, but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to create the header image. I will say that it looks awesome in my head.
Now just so you know, I only have tags on about 5 posts right now. I didn’t quite have time to go back and tag all 550-ish posts last night. I probably won’t tag all those posts either, only the really important ones. I’ll apply the same philosophy going forward. One of the main purposes of tagging is make your content easier to find, especially to search engines.
In other website news, I had a late afternoon post yesterday. It was the first time I’ve ever posted a video to the main page. If you missed it, please check it out. Espcially if you hate the Gators.
I’ve also got a new poll today as well.
Enjoy!
