Tallahassee Capital Eurocar – The Saga of Suck – Part 2

You can find Part 1 to this post here.
It was time to take the ol’ Beetle to Capital Eurocar. Our mechanic managed to get everything in car working (after a reverse battery jump) but the radio (it was fried beyond hope) and the A/C. The code on the car’s computer indicated it was a bad throttle plate. The A/C would work, but only after the car reached a certain number of RPMs.
So we arranged for the mechanic to take the car to Eurocar since he had a good idea as to what’s going with the car and what has been fixed. We also attempted to file a damage claim with AAA for a bad jump. Predictably they said their guys were not at fault and thus, wouldn’t pay for anything.
Now I can’t really remember when we dropped off the car, but Eurocar called around September 13th and said the car was “ready” to go. “Ready” in this instance meant the throttle plate was replaced but the A/C still wasn’t working. They gave us an estimate of $1300 to basically replace the entire A/C…on top of the $750 for time and materials to fix throttle plate.
Something about that whole situation sounded fishy. We ran Eurocar’s analysis by our mechanic for a second opinion and he didn’t like it either. He said that based on the parts they wanted to replace on the A/C unit, there wasn’t anything electrical for the bad jump to fry. It sounded like they wanted to charge us a crap ton of money to replace good, working parts. He took the car to a another, private German car place here in town to see what they said.
They ran a diagnostic on the car and guess what they said?
Wait for it…Wait for it…
Bad throttle plate. Same error code. Same problem.
On September 20th, we took the car back to Capital Eurocar…just over one month later.
Stay tuned for the final Part 3.
