2007 – Year In Review

Ahoy!

Well, today is the last day of 2007. Crazy to think that another year has already gone by. So what all happened in ’07 for me?

I started off the year by taking two of the hardest classes in the Computer Science program at FSU: Computer Organization and Data Structures I. Nothing says “way to start the year” by programming in assembly language, performing binary math, and writing a basic IP router in C++! In fact, that’s what probably drove me to jump out of perfectly good airplane…in February…where the wind chill at 13,000 ft was -30 deg F. I managed to survive the fall and live to see my 26th birthday in March. Yes, I am getting old.

April started a posting drought of biblical proportions. Between the months of April and July, I made 17 posts to ye ol’ website. It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to post about. Oh no…I had plenty to post about. You see, April is not a fun month, it brings about taxes and finals…which is close to death and taxes. In May, Kari and I got married on the 19th at St. George Island on the beach. It was a perfect day and we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Following the wedding, we spent a couple of days in St. Augustine relaxing and taking in the sights. On the way back home, I remember telling Kari I would probably have to work a little overtime at work when we got back because we had a major deadline at work coming up.

I didn’t know how right I was.

I ended up working all but two weekends between the start of July and the beginning of August…averaging around 55-60 hours a week. Just to recap, the year up until this point was, school, finals, move all my stuff, get married, and get chained to my desk for two months. I then had about two weeks of freedom before I started taking my one class for the Fall Semester: Data Structures II.

Starting in August, I got to experience the joys of homeownership with yard maintenance, critters/pests, and busting pipes. On the up side, Kari and I did have wood floors installed and we’ve managed to paint a few rooms as well. Kari’s car was also broken into while she was walking at a track. Then one day at church her car wouldn’t crank and that started a major ordeal which lasted a couple of months. You’ll have to click the link because I don’t even want to being to rehash that story. On the upside, football season started. We got our season tickets again and even took a road trip to Jacksonville to see FSU play against Alabama (we won BTW) in September.

November and December brought another minor posting drought. Between trying to make another deadline at work, finals at school, and Thanksgiving/Christmas, things have very busy again.

Despite all the ups and downs over 2007, Kari and I have made the best of every situation. Between me having to work so much, taking time to study/do school work, and car/house troubles, we’ve stood by and been there for each other.

And that’s been the best thing to me of 2007.

I hope everyone had a great 2007 and I wish everyone a Happy New Year!
