Reporting From State Land

Ahoy!

Yes, I know, it has been a long time since I posted. The lack of posting goodness has mostly been due to the fact that things are now moving at the speed of the state. As you know, I moved out of the home office and into a state agency on Friday, Jan 25. I didn’t get a phone or access to the network until Wednesday afternoon (Jan 30). Yeah you do the math on that. And it look the remaining bit of that week for me to get the rest of my access so I can start writing code and stuff. So there been a lot of catching up to do on my end lately. Then I got sick at the end of last week. I had a wicked case of the stomach flu and ended up taking Thursday and Friday off of work.

So how are things from state land? Absolutely brutal. I have to take a flight of about 20 stairs when I come up from the parking lot. The height of each stair is awkward such that its too small to take one stair in a one step and too big to take two stairs in one step. Then once you get in the build, there’s a TV on each floor playing the same cable news channel. Each TV has the same amount of fuzz and static on it so you can hardly make out what’s going on. Basically it is just enough so that you’ll get a little bit of news without making you just stand there and watch TV. And don’t get me started on the all the motivational posters on the cubes. Ugh.

So that’s been my experience with working at a state agency. I’m supposed to be here until around June…so I’m sure I’ll have plenty more material to report on.

And yes, I should start resuming my regular posting schedule. Again.
