iScored – Part 1

Remember that time when I had to choose between an iPod Touch or an iPod Classic back when CompUSA was closing? Well I really wanted an iPhone but that wasn’t an option since only AT&T was selling them. That meant I had to sink my “investment” money into the iPod Touch. Apparently I made the wrong decision because my wife was making hints that if I got the Classic, there would be an iPhone in my future (we tend to not communicate on that level often). From that point forward, every time I mentioned I could do [something awesome on the spot] with an iPhone, she would “kindly” remind me how I blew my chance to own one. I knew the only way I was ever going to get an iPhone (with the wife’s approval) was to get rid of the Touch first.
So when Apple announced the subsidized iPhone 3G in June and a 2nd gen iPod Touch in September, I knew it was time to act. I needed to off load the current Touch model before the new ones came out. I started by listing my iPod Touch on Craigslist and two Apple-related forums I like to visit (here and here). Sadly the only response I received from Craigslist was from a scammer. As for the forums, all of the offers were way below what I was asking for. As a last ditch effort, I placed the Touch on eBay with a buy it now option that was my high-end asking price. The next day I checked my email and someone had won it using buy it now and I already had the money in a Paypal account.
With the money literally in the bank, I got up from my desk, told Kari I was going to get my iPhone, and headed off to the nearest AT&T store. With the money I made from selling my iPod, I was able to get the 16 GB iPhone 3G for next to nothing. In addition, I made some changes to our account and added the unlimited data plan for only $10 more a month.
Not too shabby if you ask me. Stayed tuned for my next update where I’ll detail some of the highs and lows of the iPhone and introduce a new website feature.
