360 Update

As with the last time my 360 died, here’s the time line of the repair process. I just wanted to document it in case anyone else runs into a similar issue. Just for the record, the service website states it normally takes 2-3 weeks to complete a repair.
July 16 – My 360 RRoD’ed on me. Went online, submitted a repair request, received a UPS tracking number. The website informed me that I should get the box on the 20th. I didn’t have to place a phone or interact with anyone, automated or human.
July 22 – The box (aka ‘The Coffin’) arrived, a little late.
July 23 – Went down to the local UPS store to ship it back to Texas. As soon as I walked in the guy said, “Xbox 360?” Deja vu.
July 29 – According to the service website, they received my busted 360, repaired it, and shipped it back…all in the same day.
August 3 – UPS dropped off my 360. Back in business!!
Unlike last time, I did not receive a new 360. I’m guessing they just opened up the case, swapped out the components, and put it back together again. It does seem to run a little cooler, which is a good thing. I also received an extended warranty which is good though the end of October.
Here’s to hoping my 3rd 360 doesn’t fail!

I'm currently living in Tallahassee, FL where I am a graduate of the Computer Science program at FSU and a C# web developer for a local software company.
All I have to say is PS3: 2 years, no problems, blu-ray included so it’s extremely hi-def, and free online multiplayer action.
The 360s lost my vote with their glitches. Microsoft pretty much made my decision when they announced they were releasing them anyways despite the many ongoing problems just so they could beat Sony into the market. That, and you have to pay to play online multiplayer games. Me likes free…
